With reference to your letters dated 21th Ultimo and
Oth instant, further on the subject of the selection of three
Light Keepers required for Gap Rock Light House, Hong Kong, I am
directed to inform you, that vacancies occur in the Light House
Service of this Roard about once in three months, and that if
the half pay proposed to be allowed to the men from the time
they cease to draw Colonial pay until they are re-absorbed into
the Trinity House Service will cover their wages and allowancos
otherwise
which would be chargeable against the Mercantile Marine Fund, as
would appear to be the case, there would be no objection to this
portion of the proposal.
The three months notice to which you refer might or
might not prove of service in securing a post.
If not the dif-
ficulty would have to be met in the manner which has been
BUC-
rested.
